We went behind the scenes at the BT Paralympic Games with a group of disabled young
reporters who interviewed top sporting heroes including Oscar Pistorius and Ade Adepitan for
reports that were broadcast on Radiowaves.
As Press Officer for the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation’s National Peer Mentoring
Pilot, I promoted many of the groundbreaking projects running in the 300 participating schools
through articles and features across educational and youth press.
With the generous support of local businesses, PR and media companies, I worked with the
Young People at five of OnSide’s Youth Zones as they created press campaigns, promo
DVDs and websites to promote their projects.
Peer Mentors Niall and Gemma receive Diana Awards for their Anti-Bullying Club at Astley
High School. Niall explains “I used to have a reputation of being a bit loud and someone who
didn’t always listen – but I know that people have changed their opinion of me now.”

As on-call freelancer for the Media Department at Cats Protection I help the team promote
national and regional initiatives, awareness raising campaigns and Award Ceremonies.

In 2007 I set up the Holmes Chapel Primary School Press Office with a group of Y6 pupils.
This has now evolved into a News Team who write a termly school newspaper as well as
press releases promoting topical stories from the school to local papers.
NOVEL IMAGES: Every year Film Education takes over 1/2 million children to the cinema
free of charge to see a wide range of films including world cinema, animation, classics and
previews as well as the ever-popular Book-to-Film seasons.
